Accommodation options:
ULTIMATE provide a range of accommodation options to suit your needs. From stylish and cosy private rooms, to comfortable indoor dorm rooms or outdoor camping, we cater to a range of preferences. You may also gain access to on-site facilities such as: a heated spa pool, outdoor BBQ area, outdoor camp fire, pool table, table football and other indoor and outdoor recreation equipment.

Location and setting:
ULTIMATE accommodation, and the majority of our activities, are located in the scenic, spectacular Karangahake Gorge.

Local attractions include:

  • Waitawheta and Ohinemuri rivers, known for trout fishing and some great swimming holes downstream.
  • Waterfalls such as Owharoa Falls and several other smaller waterfalls in the area.
  • Walking tracks such as the Windows walk, taking you through historical mining tunnels and a few glow worms!
  • Hiking tracks where you can climb to the summit of Mt Karangahake and take in stunning views of the river valley.
  • Cycling tracks include the old rail tunnel, part of the Hauraki Rail Trail cycling route.
  • Historical sights include mining ruins, the renovated historic Waikino pub, and the Waikino Railway Station – hop on the historic Goldfields Railway Steam Train and ride to Waihi and back.

ULTIMATE activities also range across the Coromandel district, the Bay of Plenty, and the greater Waikato area – ideal to visit in both summer and winter.

Catering options:
Various dining options are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. These range from licensed restaurant and café meals, through to on-site catering delivered to your activity location. Alternatively, for a more informal meal we can provide BBQ-style catering, or a roast lamb on a spit which can also be set up at the outdoor camping spot.

Transport options:
Transport can be provided in and around Karangahake Gorge, which is situated between the towns of Paeroa and Waihi. We can also arrange airport shuttles and transport to and from the surrounding areas; Auckland, Coromandel, Waikato and the Bay of Plenty regions.

ULTIMATE is situated within an hour and a half from Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga and Rotorua.
